Finished

This is Stripified by Stephen West. It has rows of garter stitch, seed stitch, a funny different sort of garter stitch he calls knit and slide, brioche and a stocking stitch with lace.

I had some jazzy gold which livens things up a bit, but some of the other colours look sort of dull in this.

I like the brioche/border combo, but it's not perfect. There are some increases here that didn't line up nicely. Perhaps I made a mistake, but I don't think so.

Unlike yesterday, today was a fine day for standing outside with a light shawl on.

In a black and white photo you can tell that most of the colours are of the same tone, and it doesn't really matter that one is pale lavender and one is green; they both have the same amount of zing, which is practically none!

I'd have put that gold colour lower down if I knew then what I know now, but it's all good. If no one snatches this one soon, it might go in the charity box.

In other news, I went out a few days ago wearing my fingerless mitts. I returned a book to the library, I walked down this street and that, and when I got home I had only one mitt. It wasn't at the library and I turned right around and retraced my steps but couldn't find it. Dang. So of course I found a ball of yarn to make another set, but finally remembered that I have one very fancy and warm mitten and I really need to make the second of those, so that is my present project.

Believe me, it'll be a mitten one day!

Eye Candy Friday

It's been a while since I did an Eye Candy Friday post, but it's still a lovely idea and perhaps something I should do more of. Today's eye candy is almost all seasonal.

Leaves of all sorts.

And a pie.

It's a blueberry and sour cherry pie from my new Moosewood cookbook, but I used a bag of frozen blueberries, sweet cherries and blackberries, and I say it was delicious. We have been trying to make the perfect crust instead of buying pre-made crusts, and this one, with half a pound of butter in it, along with sour cream, is our favourite so far. Just don't tell my doctor...

A new knit in the works

This is called Stripified, a Stephen West shawl. Usually at this time of year I am doing his Mystery Knitalong, but this year I waited till the first clue was released instead of buying it sight-unseen. I decided I didn't like it! I started another of his shawls instead, since I already owned the pattern.

Because we all need several new shawls per year, apparently.

I am finding the colours lacking a certain zing. I am going to throw in a much lighter colour next, and am holding a charcoal in reserve for the border, so it might just be all right.

And that is all for now. Nothing else is happening around here...

A lovely fall day

I made a quick trip to the library to return a book, and the sky was clear, clear blue. Some leaves are turning and falling, some are still green.

You can see the moon up there

Now to hurriedly tidy up because my brother is popping in this afternoon, after a summer on the other side of the country. I'll at least remove the tripping hazards (knitting bags all over the floor, for example).
