And weeks go by

I have no indigo for you for indigo month. Indigo is a crazy colour anyways; Isaac Newton liked it, but most people have trouble distinguishing that spot on the prism between blue and violet. Anyways, I have been looking for a deep blue that looks like it has been dyed with something like the indigo plant.

Maybe the Ritchie Ave sign up there is indigo.

I wondered if the blue rectangle there was indigo, but I think it is old, faded blue.

I took those pictures one day when I went to the Christopher Cutts gallery to see works by my friend Janieta Eyre. She's quite nice, really, not as crazy as you might think from her art. Or maybe she is that crazy and just hides it well... Anyways, her art is certainly arresting sometimes.

Now I am in Vancouver, sitting in my nice apartment with a painter in the next room, turning my dining room sky blue. Pictures soon! Most of the rest is just white. The bedroom should be "lotus yellow" shortly.

The sky here is not sky blue these days, but grey and damp. Last time I was here it was July and the sun shone constantly, so I have to remember that that was unusual, and this is what I have to get used to again!

In a few days it will be November and I guess I will try NaBloPoMo again. Some bloggers now do something called Blogtober, which is easier to type, so maybe I'll do that next year! It's also violet month in November, which should result in more on-topic photos.

Finished after many years

In September of 2014, I started making these squares. Clearly I have not been regularly knitting a stitch a day, but have done a square or two, then ignored this project for month or even years on end.

I knit the back maybe last year? And did I use up all the yarn, or am I looking for leftovers somewhere? Who can say.

I sewed up three sides of the bag carefully, then jammed the giant pillow (which I've had for years as well) into it and overcast the fourth edge.

It was quite a struggle at first, but one very nice thing about knitted fabric is that it is stretchy.

Not quite the same number of stitches on front and back, but see "stretchy." It all worked out.

It is very large.

And colourful.

I am not sure if we will take it to Vancouver or keep it here. It's pretty fun!

Another finished object

A hat, perfect for the upcoming fall weather. And perhaps you could call some of that brim indigo? I dunno!

I always look a bit suspicious in selfies

It's a pattern from a PomPom Quarterly magazine. I have been going through old knitting patterns and actually passing some on to other people, if you can believe it. I came across this and decided I should just buy some yarn and make it, and I will keep this magazine, too!

I will have another finished object very soon, but it has just been washed and so is on the drying rack downstairs, and I forgot to take pictures today. Tomorrow I have a tricky seam to sew and then it'll be complete!

Of course I also have to make Thanksgiving dinner for our wee family and two friends, so might not get too much sewing done. We shall see.

It's indigo month

Getting close to the end of the rainbow and Mary's own private Project Spectrum. It has been interesting thinking about colours this way, and indigo will be pretty darn challenging. Of course I have about a million balls of indigo-dyed Rowan Denim upstairs as well as several unfinished projects, and we will get to that one day.

Hard to get the colour right!

I also have a gigantic unfinished bedspread made of old black and blue jeans, with a few additions. I'd love to get that all sewn together soon! Then I have to figure out the rest of it, because I am actually putting batting in and quilting it. Or something. One thing at a time.

The stretchy stuff they put in jeans today doesn't fade the same way the cotton does

Other than that, where can I find some indigo? It is the name of a large bookstore chain... I have blueberries, which are sort of indigo coloured... We'll figure something out.
