Today's mail, and today's harvest

Lookee what I have!

A well-loved Rowan 10. And an eggplant from my very own garden.

I went out to pick it, and to hack down some of the other overgrown foliage, and discovered I really had three eggplants!

Whoo hoo! (Now what do I do?)

  1. Roast until meltingly soft and make baba ganoush? But maybe tomorrow when the the temps drop. Or in the middle of the night.

  2. Jealous of those eggplants. mine only have flowers. I love them sliced, brushed with olive oil and grilled.

  3. Baba ganoush. Melanzane parmiggiana. Moussaka. Nom!

I'm still doing a happy dance, bcause I have ONE nascent baby eggplant starting. This really is an achievement round here, though, and - to be fair - J doesn't like them anyway, so it's not like I'd really want a glut...

  4. I am so impressed by your aubergines ! As others have suggested Bab Ganoush. The Imman fainted is the translation I read somewhere. I love them so much.

Have you decided what you're going to knit first from no. 10 ?

  5. Eggplant Parm? Or Molly Katzen's fabulous Veg Shepherd's Pie from The Enchanted Broccoli Forest cookbook? Tho the Baba Ganoush and grilled suggestions above sounds great too (so one or two for each recipe???). I always thought I hated eggplant til a friend made me BG and I was too polite not to try it. I had seconds!

  6. Oh, Imam Bayildi (Imam Fainted) is another winner -- but it isn't BG. It is stuffed eggplant. Supposedly the Imam fainted when his wife told him how much oil she used to cook the dish. Mmmmmmm.
