Last night's fun

Yesterday was the big Bonfire Night on the common. The trucks had come, rides had been set up and we were all ready to go! Since the sun now sets at about 4:30 pm, everything got under way in the dark at 6.

Baby Dodgem cars!

There was a 15-minute fireworks show with just crazy amounts of noise, glitter, booms, sparkles... I had almost no power left on my phone, so didn't get many pictures, and you know that a small percentage of fireworks pictures actually work out.

Then, the fire! A huge stack of wooden pallets was built in the common, maybe 3 or 4 meters tall. Of course, pallets are mainly air, so it burned very quickly. I suspect a huge quantity of some flammable chemical was added, of course.

So lucky we stood where we did, and not downwind! The people on the other side got fireworks smoke, and then this blazing inferno blowing at them. The fences did, as you can see, keep us all quite far away!

It was really crowded! They said that 25,000 people were there. We left after the fire had died down a bit, and by that time all the teenagers in town were at the rides, which we had to pass through to get out. Squishy! And let's not forget that cows had been living in this space not long ago, and it had been raining, so it was a pretty mucky walk. But very nice to see the show!

  1. Any sign of a Guy? It looks like he'd be pretty hard to see, though, even if he was thrown on the fire.
